All candidates debate in Parkdale-High Park

Here are the candidates:

Andrew Borkowski Christian Heritage Party of Canada

Jilian Saweczko Conservative Party of Canada

Rob Rishchynski Green Party of Canada

Rob Rishchynski

Gerard Kennedy Liberal Party of Canada

Gerard Kennedy

Terry Parker Marijuana Party

Peggy Nash New Democratic Party of Canada (presently holds the seat)

Peggy Nash

What we saw:

Some highlights included –

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada candidate was funny and served as comic relief. He got booed heavily when he said that he does not believe that global warming is real and that it has served to make Al Gore rich.

The Green Party candidate was very succinct and he also knew the party policies. Very relatable and discussed not being part of partisan politics, referring to Nash and Kennedy. Green Party discussed tax strategies including  not taxing income up to $25,000.

Marijuana party candidate was a joke and funny.

A major theme of the night became the issue of how to help the environment and the economy – mainly taxing at the source, cap and trade or carbon tax.

NDP surprisingly were really strong on the issues of arctic sovereignty and stopping foreign takeovers. She spoke strongly on opposing the war in Afghanistan and how her party voted against the Afghanistan war extension twice.

Kennedy had to defend supporting the current government’s mandates in parliament and he discussed how him and his party plan on reversing the items they voted for if elected to a new government. He played the victim card and said that they had to juggle between bringing down the government and forcing an election or trying to work with what they had.

The Conservative candidate kept referring to the new child benefit and the GST cut as a way of decreasing poverty in cities. She also briefly discussed the Conservative green plan as a set of fines for large companies that have large carbon emissions.

When asked, the NDP candidate discussed the possibility of a coalition with any other party and the Liberal candidate shot the idea down.

Abstraction reaction observations:

Jilian Saweczko

– not a clear communicator but at least she showed up. Long winded and read from a script. Has a son in the service and did not say she wanted to pull the troops out of Afghanistan. Was pro-life but said that Harper would not open the issue. Hard to understand because of accent and lack of communication skills.

Peggy Nash

– clear, concise, affable, competent, engaging, a lot of applause, roars from the crowd, respectful to the other candidates, proficient, clearly stated her stance on every issue

Rob Rishchynski

– clear, concise, not as articulate but made key points

Gerard Kennedy

– smarmy, overly confident, not direct in his answers, blustery, came off very evangelical and grandiose, grabbed mic and walked about the stage as if in a church service, impatient with the organizers, visible flustered at times, was reprimanded by the moderator, rude

Conservative candidates refuse to debate!

Conservative candidates in Manitoba refuse to take part in an all candidates meeting at the University of Winnipeg. In an email gaffe, one Conservative party organizer accidentally sent an email to the school union referring to the University as a no-fly zone. Conservatives clearly don’t care about education or their potential constituents.

Stephen Harper likes to BBQ his pets

It looks like the hardest guy in show biz, Stephen Harper, took Sunday off the campaign trail.  He spent time finger painting with his kids and then they had a nice BBQ in the backyard.

Harper still likes finger painting with his knob

We brought it to you attention last week that Harper likes to cut funding for the arts.  Well, he’s at it again.  This time he is using smoke and mirrors.  He thinks that introducing a tax credit for children’s activities will help.  If the programs have already been cut, there aren’t any activities for these kids to do anyways.  Moreover, it’s ridiculus to think that tax breaks for finger painting replace funding for the arts.  More conservative right wing agenda masquerading as a tax break.

Stephen Harper wants you to be Poor

Stephen Harper is the only party leader that failed to respond to “Make Poverty History.”  It seems that Harper wants us all to be poor and his platform is aimed at making and keeping him and his friends rich.  We suggest to vote ABC, or Anything But Conservative.

Harper likes to finger paint… but not with his finger

Jack Layton, leader of the NDP, has vowed to return funding to the arts in Canada.  The Stephen Harper “one man show” Conservative government has made $45 million in cuts to the arts.  They also have tried to push their right-wing agenda with films and made numerous cuts to Telefilm.  Harper has suggested that Canadian art is useless and unproductive, but to appease the crazy left-wing artists, he has offered up his own finger painting portraits and has developed an art class called “Art on a Budget: From Finger Painting to Paper Dolls” taught by Stockwell Day.

Do you want anything to do with Harper’s poll?

If we are to believe the recent polls, many Canadians still feel that the Conservatives should be running the country.  As an urban dweller, I find this astonishing.  I rarely meet somebody that supports those douche bags.  I find it concerning that the “left-wing” vote is split amongst the other parties.  Canadians, in general, are clearly left of center on the political spectrum.

Does Harper Spend Election Money on Cheap Boos and Hos?

The Liberal Party of Canada is calling on an RCMP investigation into election spending by Harper those crazy Conservatives. Perhaps they will find receipts for cheap bourbon and Spitzer’s call girls! Those right-wing religious conservatives can really party you know.

Harper sues the Liberals, perezhilton.com and Other Blogs

Stephen Harper is suing the Liberals over the Cadman scandal, to the tune of $2.5 million, CDN of course.  This entire fiasco is an act of juvenile machismo and only goes to show exactly how ineffective and useless this current government is.  Who’s next? The WordPress blogs? Perez Hilton? The Conservative government needs to be booted and sent to the curb.  If only Stephane Dion could grow a pair of balls, or borrow Michael Ignatieff’s.

Stephen Harper looks Fat in a Kimono

Ok maybe it’s not a kimono. But, the Harper government is trying to help the backlog of immigration applications. How you ask? Simply by having more rejections, silly. A new bill they are trying to cram down our throats will allow the immigration Minister to reject applications already approved by immigration officers and have the final say on the “type” of immigrant that comes in (kind of like a bouncer at a posh night club). By the way, if you have a photo of Harper in a sombrero, please let us know, thanks.

Stephen Harper gets all greasy and oily

Apparently there are new rules aimed at oil sands and coal plants.  The highlights include forcing new oilsands projects to capture and store greenhouse gas emissions and ban construction of new dirty coal plants beginning in 2012.

John Baird is very Beary

Canadian Minister of the Environment, John Baird, thinks that a recent green bill proposed is the end all and be all of environmental sustainability. The undying leftys in parliament, known as the NDP, have tabled a motion to take down the government because it isn’t setting the environment as a priority. Of course, Stephane Dion and the Liberal Party don’t want an election because of their lack of charismatic leadership. However, Stephen Harper has maintained that John Baird will continue to escort the First Lady, Laureen Harper, to all public function. Harper isn’t acting like the usual right wing insecure jealous husband because Baird is a big, lovable Bear.

Clinton doesn’t wear briefs in Canada

According to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Hillary Clinton’s campaign did not brief the PMO on any aspect of her stance on NAFTA. NAFTA-gate has hurt Barack Obama’s chances of winning the White House. Allegations of double-talking and political posturing have plagued Obama ever since, probably aiding in his loss of both Texas and Ohio primaries. I think Clinton and Obama should come on up to Canada in their briefs and go for a cold dip in the chilling waters of Lake Superior. Surely that would be warmer their relationship as of late.

Stephen Harper: Families, Workers and Seniors MUST Suffer!

Suffering is the most popular stop on the subway train to heaven.  At least that’s what the Conservative Party of Canada would have you believe.  At a swanky lunchtime talky-poo at the Economic Club of Toronto, Stephen Harper, the Canadian Prime Minister, told listeners that Canadians falling on hard times during the current economic lull shouldn’t count on the government to bail them out.  Critics have been asking for tax relief for families, the working class and seniors.  Surprisingly, the minority Conservative government will have none of such debauchery.  He concluded his speech by saying “Let them eat cake!”

The devil lives one more day…

Hooray! Hooray! The Stephen Harper Conservative government lives one more day as the budget passes in the House of Commons. Most Liberals didn’t show up and we won’t be having an election any time soon. We will also not be having any environmental policies, publicly funded non-Conservative cinema or daycare. Awesome!
